The Spanish Inquisition. Brrrrr it gives me chills just to think about it. But this poor guy was tortured and was "supposed" to be killed. Notice how I say "supposed". Well I'll start from the beginning, this man was being tried by judges and sentenced to death. He was put in a black room and left there alone. He discovered a pit, where he was supposed to die in. Later, he was drugged and was tied to a wooden board and a pendulum was swinging above. The pendulum was shaped perfectly to cut his heart. He rubbed the meat on himself and rats bit through the ropes and he avoided another form of death. Later, the shape of the room changed. The walls became burning hot and started to cave in so the man would fall into the pit. The walls pushed him into the pit, and as he fell, a hand had caught him. The prisoner was safe and the Inquisition was in the hands of it's enemies. Notice how this man was "supposed" to die. How ironic! Think about it. Poe is often associated with torture, death, or fear and more? Yes, it contained some of his famous elements, but, it did have a "happy ending". Hmm...
